Professor Shatursunov S.S. is the author of over 300 scientific papers published in leading national and international journals,12 Patents for inventions and for useful model, 2 manuals on topical problems of the spine. He supervised the publication of a national catalog on implants invented in Uzbekistan and used in traumatology, orthopedics and spine surgery.
Under his supervision, 5 PhD theses were prepared and successfully defended. Currently, 2 doctoral and 4 candidate theses are being prepared for publication.
Professor Shatursunov S. S. supervised successfully complete the five scientific grants Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and at present time undergoing,of the sixth research grant on actual problems of spinal surgery.
He introduced into the practice of spine surgery in Uzbekistan the method of transpedicular correction and stabilization of the spine with titanium pedicle screws, as well as the method of internal intercorporal stabilization of the lumbar spine with titanium cage implants.
The main activity of the professor is the development of modern and effective minimally invasive methods of surgical treatment of degenerative dystrophic diseases of the spine, pathological fractures of the vertebral bodies, treatment of the]osteoporosis and cancer. The method of percutaneous plasma nucleoplasty of intervertebral discs (PNP) and the method of percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty with bone cement for osteoporotic compression fractures of vertebral bodies, which are currently widely used in Vertebrology, have been introduced into the clinical practice of spinal surgery in Uzbekistan .
He developed original methods of complex orthopedic treatment of degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine, which are now widely used in the clinical practice of medical centers of the Republic.
Since 2012, Professor S.S. Shatursunov has been a member of the ISMISS (International Society for Minimal Intervention in Spinal Surgery) Presidium of the international community for minimally invasive spinal surgery, headquartered in ZURICH ( Switzerland).
Under the auspices of ISMISS, many modern highly effective minimally invasive surgical methods for the treatment of vertebral pathology have been introduced into the clinical practice of vertebral surgery in our country with the assistance of the professor. In recent years, he has introduced percutaneous endoscopic spinal surgery – percutaneous endoscopic transforaminal discectomy of the lumbar spine (PELD) and percutaneous stenoscopic lumbar decompression (PSLD) - into the practice of spinal surgery.
Professor Shatursunov in his,scientific and practical activities, it actively cooperates with many leading scientists of major scientific centers of developed foreign countries such as Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, the United States of America, India, Indonesia and the CIS countries( Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and others).
Actively participates in international conferences, congresses and master classes under the auspices of ISMISS, EURO SPINE, AO SPINE, NASSMISS and KOSMISS.
Successfully presented scientific reports as a speaker at the invitation of the organizing committees of international conferences on vertebral surgery in Switzerland (Zurich 2011), Turkey (Antalya 2012, Izmir 2014, Istanbul 2016), Japan (Sapporo 2013), South Korea (Busan 2015, Seoul 2016), Indonesia (Jakarta 2016), etc.
